RECORD STORES:
Amoeba Music -http://www.amoebamusic.com/ A
must visit in San
Francisco-Grocery store-sized warehouse of music! Tons of vinyl, 45's,
budget CD's and Lp's, and a decent new punk selection. The Berkeley
Store has better selection of new hardcore and punk, seems a little
cheaper, and also seems to get in a wider range of oddball, obscure and
unique used records., while the SF store seems to get more rarities.
Aquarius Records 1055 Valencia Street San Francisco 94110
http://www.aquariusrecords.org/
Although they only have a small vinyl
section, they have an unbeatable import selection of indie,
experimental, alternative CD's as well as one of the best Metal
Sections in town and are San Francisco's oldest independent music
store. The original Location in the castro between 18th and 19th on
Castro was where the various members of the Dead kennedy's placed
bulletin board "form a band" ads to eventually Form the DK's.
Axis Records and Comics
http://
www.axisrecordsandcomics.com/ Axis Records and Comics Closed their
physical location but you can find
them online. This weblink takes
you to their Ebay store filled with heaps or records, comics, role
playing games, toys, memorabilia and more. Heaps of punk records, new
and old.
Grooves 1797 Market Street San Francisco, CA 94103
Collectors vinyl store of all types of music, the cool thing about this
store is “they’ll give anything a go†so you then find yourself turning
up the KRYZYS LP from Poland or something equally obscure.
Mod Lang 6328 Fairmount Ave, Rear. El Cerrito, CA
http://www.modlang.com/
Specializes in British Imports, Brit-Pop and
Indie but also used vinyl and rarities.
Rasputin's http://www.rasputinmusic.com/
Lots of locations in the Bay
Area, the Berkeley Store ( 2401 Telegraph) is the most vinyl-heavy with
a good new and used punk selection.
Red Devil Records 894 Fourth Street San Rafael 94901
http://www.svn.net/reddevil/
Just across the Golden Gate Bridge in Downtown San Rafael, Red Devil
probably has the best selection of punk rarities in the Bay Area making
it well worth the trip and $5 bridge toll. Great store that also stocks
new punk and has lots of obscure new hard-to-get 7" releases.
Streetlight-http://
www.streetlightrecords.com/ There's three Bay Area
locations- the San Francisco Location which has vinyl upstairs and while not
punk heavy, has been home to more than one incredible score and is
always worth a look ( 2350 Market Street 94114 (near Castro). The
24th street Location (3979 24th Street 94114) has a good
selection and again “you never knowâ€factor. Solid section of new punk.
